Giethoorn 'Venice of Netherlands' is one of the top and must-see attractions in The Netherlands, simply because of its natural beauty. Giethoorn is unique and peaceful that it hardly seems real. Cruising along narrow canals with a small electric boat (unlike other tour operators offer big touristy boat), passing through wooden arch bridges, seeing those old but pretty thatched-roof farmhouses. A day to remember!
Giethoorn has only 2,700 inhabitants. There are no main roads in the village centre, all transport is done by water over one of the many canals (but nowadays there is a cycling path). Venice has gondolas, Giethoorn has punters, traditional 'whisper boat' electric boats that are used for transport over the canals. Take a guided boat trip (you may even drive your own boat), by walk or by bike to admire the beautifully preserved unique village built in the middle of a swampy area. Each farmhouse is actually built on a small man-made island and the access to the village centre is traditionally done by boat.
Itinerary:
09.30 Pick up at DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station, Oosterdoksstraat 4, 1011 DK Amsterdam.
10:45-11:15 Drive through with a photo stop at the largest artificial lake Ijsselmeer and the longest dyke Afsluitdijk.
12:15 Guided canal cruise on a small electric boat (1 hour) cruising around the historic centre of Giethoorn, you may drive the boat for a local experience!
13.30 Group lunch (recommendation by our guide for local cuisine). Optional and at own cost.
14:30 Walking tour by our friendly guide or free time for your own activities immerse yourself in the peaceful 'Dutch Venice'.
16:30-17:00 Leave Giethoorn
18:00-18:30 Arrive Amsterdam Centraal Station
Price: €138 per person (Including Mercedes minivan, guide, 1-hour small electric boat trip (small electric boat drive your own boat cruising around the beautiful canals).
